Abstract

<PICT:0379874/IV/1> <PICT:0379874/IV/2> Textile fibres such as jute, ramie and flax are subjected to the various steps of degumming or like preparatory treatment in an open and preferably straight condition. The fibres are placed on trays 25 the top 29 and bottom 27 of which are of wire mesh and uprights 31 of stout wire keep the fibres in position. The trays are inserted in a frame 1 beneath a series of distributer chests 3 and the frame is placed in a container. Treating liquid is sprayed from the chests 3 on to the fibres and flows over the top of the next chest. The liquid collects at the bottom of the container and is recirculated.
