Abstract
379,436. Vacuum cleaner nozzles. WITHERS, J. S., 51, Chancery Lane, London.-(Queen, H. E. ; 3717, Woodley Road, Washington, and Replogle, D. B. ; 940, Arlington Avenue, Berkeley, California, both in U.S.A.) June 17, 1931, No. 17606. [Class 8 (i).] The nozzle of a vacuum cleaner is supported by rollers 20, Fig. 9, in a manner allowing relative vertical movement. The shanks 14 of the rollers are riveted to blade springs 19, and are received in pockets 13 formed in the nozzle, being held therein by interengaging lugs on the springs and pockets. The shanks carry covers 26 which normally close air inlet openings in the nozzle ends, these openings being uncovered by applying extra pressure on the nozzle; Fig. 16 shows the form of the covers. The nozzle is formed of an elongated cup 1, Fig. 2, and a lid 2 fitting on it, the two parts combining in the middle to form a neck over which a flanged collar 7 is fitted. An elbow-piece 31 is rotatably fitted on this collar, and receives the tubular handle which is secured by a spring pin 36 and a slot. The base of the part 1 is slotted, and the sides of the slot are rolled back to form beads on which tubes 11 of fibre &c. are slid to form lips on which teeth may be cut. A tool comprising a brush 42, Fig. 13, and a felt 43 is reversibly supported from the nozzle.
