Abstract

379,377. Scoop apparatus for transporting loose material. BROWN, S. WALTON-, Seghill Hall, Dudley, Northumberland. May 29, 1931, No. 5955/32. Divided on 379,365. [Class 78 (iv).] In apparatus comprising a self-loading scoop or scoops as defined in Specification 379,365, whether of low form for insertion in the kerf or not, discharge is effected on a platform or plate p having a hole or gap h over which the scoop is run, with the scoop, when not of open bottom construction, supported at the bottom on the platform. The platform may be a bridge over tubs, conveyers, &c., and it may be at a gate end or elsewhere. The platform or plate may have upstanding guides b or it may be in the form of troughing, and it may be portable. As shown in plan in Fig. 1, discharge is through a hole h between flared guides b, the scoop being supported on the portions p<3>. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the guides b are straight, and the platform p is extended by a hinged or flat or bent sections at either end or at both ends. In another modification, Fig. 3, discharge is through a gap h between guides b. As shown in Fig. 4, the scoop s discharges on a raised bridge pl, p, p<2> over troughing m in which another scoop s<1> is operated by the same haulage system or another. The platform p is supported by shoots l on the troughing m, or it may be supported from the floor. In a modification, Fig. 4a (not shown), the supports for the platform p run on rails at either side of the troughing m, and the ramps p<1>, p<2> are detached for transit. As shown in Fig. 6, the scoop s discharges through a gap h in the end of an inclined platform p adjustable in standards v. The platform is secured by uprights z, and is provided with raised scoop guides b. The haulage rope e passes through the gap hand over a roller r. A shoot l is provided at the inner end of the gap h. In modifications not illustrated, open-bottom scoops fitted on the sides with cheeks, rollers, &c. are supported during discharge by co-operating carrier parts on the platform ; the scoop may have hinged bottom flaps which are opened when over the hole or gap in the platform ; or the scoop may have a closed bottom and may stop short or partly short of the hole or gap while discharge is effected by gravity on a sloping platform, or by drawing a door or flap through the body of the scoop. Specifications 352,930, 378,512, and 380,789 also are referred to.
