Abstract

377,363. Regulating switches. NEWTON, E. P., 46, Cypress Avenue, Whitton, Twickenham, Middlesex. May 30, 1931, No. 15847. [Class 38 (v).] In a stage-lighting installation selective control is obtained by the use of dimmers in which a spindle 8 carries a wiper 9 movable over contacts 10, the direction of motion of the arm being determined by selective control of coils W<1>, W<2>. Constantly rotating bevel wheels 16, 17 are connected through bevels 19, clutches 21, and bevels 20 all mounted on shafts 18 to the bevel wheels 14, 15 which rotate the shaft 13 to produce movement of the wiper arm by meshing of the worm 12 with the worm wheel 11. Actuation of either Wl or W<2> closes the appropriate clutch electromagnetically and the wiper arm is moved to introduce or remove resistance. In a modification the control coils are mounted on the clutch itself.
