[Class 118 (ii)] The operations of an echo sounding recorder may be indicated by one or more repeaters at a distance, the arrangement being such that recording and indicating may take place simultaneously or either may occur alone. The recorder shown is provided with changespeed gearing 21, 22 by operation of which from a control switch 65 the rotations of the constant speed motor 1 are conveyed to a shaft 24 at either of two speeds or are not conveyed at all, in which case the recording mechanism proper consisting of a pen 39 sweeping during its rotation about the shaft 24 across the record sheet 41 is not actuated. The motor, however, constantly drives a shaft 10 carrying cams controlling switches 15-18 so that, provided a multi-pole switch is thrown, a repeating indicator which may be of the kind described in Specification 478,744 is actuated. An electrical lay-out is described and includes an amplifier, connections for suppressing the effect of the sound transmission upon the recorder, the multi-pole switch above-mentioned and the control switch 65 with its geared auxiliary switch 67, both these switches controlling spring sets individually connected with similar sets controlled by the cams 32, 52 for timing the various operations. With the control switch in one position, the latter cams are not driven and the repeater is operated under the control of cams 11-14 provided the multi-pole switch is in closed position. If the control switch is moved one way or the other, the functions of cams 11-14 are taken over by cams 32, 52 and the recorder operates in one or other range while the repeater may be left connected up or may be cut out.
