Abstract

376,957. Gas storage cylinders. MANNESMANNROHREN-WERKE and WELTER, F., 1B, Berger Ufer, D³sseldorf, Germany. July 21, 1931, No. 20825. [Class 8 (ii).] A method of forming metallic hollow bodies such as flasks comprises the steps of forming a restricted neck b on one end of the hollow body a, introducing a bottom member c into the interior of the body, folding back inwardly the end of the body remote from the neck as at d, pressing the bottom member into abutting engagement with the inturned edge by means, such as a rod e introduced through the neck, and welding the bottom member to the inturned edge as at f. The inturned edge d and the edge of the bottom member c may be bevelled, as shown. The bottom member c, which may be stamped or forged, may be in the form of a disc, or of a disc with a bevelled annular flange to abut against the edge d or may be made with a central outwardly convex dome surrounded by a rolled rim. It may have a diameter slightly less than that of the body a so that the outer wall of the flask is unaffected by the heat of the welding operation.
