Abstract

A composition for brake blocks &c. consists of a non-metallic, finely divided body of an average size of not less than 5 microns, and a binder in the proportion by volume of 5 to 7 body and 1 binder, so that during use continuous wear takes place resulting in the emission of particles cleansing the brake surface and causing any water thereon to form a thin, uniform, easily dispersed film. The particle size of the body is on an average from 15 to 20 microns. Fibres, such as asbestos, may also be incorporated. As body material kieselguhr or other diatomaceous earth, tripoli, rottenstone, asbestos powder, and as binder rubber, phenol-formaldehyde or similar condensation products are specified.
