Abstract

375,897. Electroplating apparatus. SOC. ANON. WALDBERG, 223, Boulevard Pereire, Paris. April 8, 1931, No. 10404. Convention date, April 8, 1930. Addition to 362,191. [Class 41.] In an electroplating apparatus for small articles comprising a rotating vat b, Fig. 1, having electromagnets e arranged beneath the base for holding the articles in good contact with the container, the magnetic poles N, S are of different sizes as shown in Fig. 4, or are distributed asymmetrically as shown in Fig. 3 in order to promote turning over of the articles. The polarities may be modified, if desired, by introduction of a sheet metal member below the vat. The vat may be of insulating material or of metal lined with glass, porcelain or sandstone ; if of iron, it is provided with a non- magnetic base or lining. A collar b on the vat engages a brush connected to the negative pole, and is connected to the vat or to internal cathodes. The anode h is mounted on an arm 6 secured to a carriage k provided with rollers 7, 8 running on rails l. On completion of the plating the anode is magnetized by a coil i connected to brushes n<2> so as to attract the articles, and is raised along the rails, the electrolyzing circuit being simultaneously broken. The rollers 7 ride over slots 9 through which the rollers 8, which are smaller, fall so as to enter guides 10, bringing the anode over a hopper 14 into which the articles are dropped by interruption of the magnetizing circuit. The vat b is provided with a gutter u by which overflowing liquid is led to the hopper 14 from which it is returned to the vat by a pump. The hopper 14 is provided with a jacket 15 through which hot or cold water is circulated. A thermometer 4 with indicating dial 5 is mounted on the anode h. The electromagnets e may be arranged around instead of beneath the vat. Specification 341,093 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also apparatus in which the turning over of the articles is effected by periodic interruption of the magnetizing current and apparatus in which the electromagnets e rotate and the vat is stationary ; this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
