Abstract
375,431. Vehicle life - guards. CHECKLEY, E., 1, Cullingworth Road, Dollis Hill, London. June 25,1931, No. 2234. [Class 103 (ii).] In a vehicle life-guard comprising a plurality of forwardly-projecting flaps 10 adapted to move independently towards and away from the ground, the flaps lie within the forward limit of the front wheels and are mounted on the lower ends of vertical arms 11 which, on an obstruction being met, are displaceable downwardly in supports 12 against the action of springs 13. To cause lateral movement of the flaps with the steering-wheels pins 30 in the arms 11 are engaged by forks on a bar 28 secured between brackets 27 on the brake drum casings of the front wheels. The flaps may be pivoted to the arms 11 and maintained horizontal by spring means. The front wheels are each provided with a flap 24 secured to a fixed shield 20 carried by arms 21, 23 from the brake drum casing, the arm 23 being spring- mounted to permit pivotal movement of the shield, and the rear wheels are fitted with corresponding shields. All the flaps are provided with road-rollers.
