Abstract

558,812. Snow ploughs. LEWIN ROAD SWEEPERS, Ltd., and LEWIN, W. J. June 16, 1942, No. 8230. [Class 107] In a vehicular snow plough in which separate plough blades are fitted one in advance of each front wheel of the vehicle to clear a track therefor, each blade is hingedly suspended from a mounting which may be adjusted to set the blade angularly relative to the adjacent wheel, the blade removing snow to one side only of the wheel. In Figs. 1, 2 and 4, a vehicle 1 has in advance of each front wheel 3 a small plough blade 2 deflecting the snow inwardly or outwardly, each blade 2 being carried by a hinge pin 5 on a shaft 6 adjustable vertically and rotatably in a bracket 7 and locked by a screw 8. Each blade 2 is resiliently supported by a leaf spring 9, and may be turned up and secured in inactive position. Each bracket 7 is adjustable along a tubular carrier 11 secured by brackets 12 to the chassis or springs of the vehicle 1 ; the brackets 7 are held in adjusted position as by locking pins engaging holes in the carrier 11. The bulk of the snow is removed by a main blade 14 carried by a frame 15 pivoted to a draw bar 16 attached to the rear of the vehicle 1, the frame 15 being held in adjusted position by a pin 17 ; road wheels 19 support the blade 14 which is held down by a ballast box 20. The main blade 14 may be rigidly or resiliently mounted before or behind the rear axle of the vehicle, or a blade may be arranged in both said positions, or the blade 14 may be replaced by two or more blades, the snow being passed from one blade to the next. Any plough blade may be curved and may be adjustable vertically. The snow may be directed to collector means. In Fig. 8, a levelling plough 24 is arranged between the blades 2 to cut clearance for the undercarriage of the vehicle 1.
