[Class 74 (ii).] A straight-bar machine has two rods D, D1 carrying covers points D4, D5 or like instruments for making clock and like patterns, each rod being capable of endwise movement independently of the other, and one or both being also capable of rocking movement sufficient. to throw its points out of action. The endwise and rocking movement of the rods D, D1 are controlled by jacquard mechanism, the endwise movements preferably being effected as described in Specification 289,169, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.]. Flat surfaces E2 are formed at intervals along one or both of point-bar rocking shafts E and corresponding brackets E4 with pins E5 are provided upon the shaft or shafts. Arms E1 fixed to the rods D, D1 have forked ends E6 embracing the shafts E at the flat portions, so that upon rotation of a shaft E through an angle X as shown in Fig. 3 the flat surface E2 engages the fork E6 and rocks the coverer point D5 from the position shown in full, i.e. in alignment with the needles, to the dotted line position. The rocking shafts, E are rocked automatically by means of droppers controlled by jacquard cards.
