Abstract

375,049. Wrappers for cigarettes &c. MOLINS, W. E., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. June 1, 1931, No. 15948. [Class 94 (i). An airtight envelope for a block-shaped packet of cigarettes &c. comprising a rectangular blank folded to form a block bottom pocket is characterized in that gum, celluloid solvent, &c. is applied to the blank and/or the partly-formed wrapper so that each fold which is wholly or partially exposed is secured by the gum &c. to the surface in contact therewith to exclude air. The blank 1 is provided with areas of gum 2, 3, 4, the block bottom being folded as in Fig. 3, the narrow tucks 5 being first formed after which the side portions 6 are folded in and finally the side portions 7 are folded down, the bottom and sides being hermetically sealed by the gum streaks 2. The top is closed as in Fig. 5 by firstly folding in the narrow side tucks 8, then the flap 9 and finally the flap 10, the top being hermetically sealed by the gum patches 3 ; the patch 4 being preferably applied to the flap 9 after it has been folded in. If a wrapper of celluloid is used gum may be replaced by a suitable solvent, e.g. that sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Cellosolve." The wrapper, if of paper, may be waxed on its inner surface except where it is to contact with a corresponding patch of gum.
