Abstract
Mixed cellulose ester and cellulose material, printing.--Solid printed shades on material containing both cellulose esters and cellulose itself in regenerated or natural form are produced by printing on the material a direct azo colour printing paste and an alkali in the presence of an aromatic nitro compound containing a group such as sulpho- or carboxy-capable of rendering it soluble in water. Suitable compounds are m-nitrobenzene sulphonic acid, 1-chloro-4-nitrobenzene-2-sulphonic acid, m-nitrobenzoic acid, 1-nitronaphthalene-6- or 7-sulphonic acid. In examples (1) a union fabric of cellulose acetate and viscose is printed with a paste of Chlorazol Dark Green PL, British gum thickening, sodium m-nitrobenzene sulphonate and caustic soda; after drying, steaming and washing a solid green shade is obtained on the printed portions; other azo dyestuffs are specified, (2) a mixed cellulose acetate-viscose material is padded with an aqueous solution of sodium m-nitrobenzenesulphonate, dried, printed with a paste of Chlorazol Green BN, British gum and caustic soda and finished as above.
