Abstract

Reserve effects are produced by local esterification yarns, loose material, or fabrics composed of vegetable fibres, by printing with an alkalizing agent, such as concentrated alkali, with or without a thickening agent and alcohol, or an alcoholic solution of an alkali alcoholate, and then applying thereon a dry or moist esterifying agent, such as an acidyl chloride or anhydride or a sulphochloride, and finally washing. Specification 195,619 is referred to.ALSO:Reserve effects by local esterfication of vegetable fibres, in the form of yarns, loose material, or fabrics, by printing with an alkalizing agent, such as concentrated alkali, with or without a thickening agent, alcohol or an alcoholic solution of an alkali alcoholate and then applying thereon a dry or moist esterifying agent, such as an acidyl chloride or anhydride or a sulphochloride, and finally washing. A white reserve on a coloured ground is obtained by subsequent dyeing with a substantive dyestuff, and a coloured reserve on a white or coloured ground by mixing an excess of dyestuff with the alkalizing agent with or without subsequent dyeing, by subsequently dyeing the reserved parts with basic dyestuffs, gallocyamine derivatives on certain acid dyestuffs or by dyeing the whole in a bath containing both a substantive and an acid dyestuff. Mottled effects may be obtained by local esterfication of loose material or yarns, working up with woollen fibres and dyeing first with a basic dyestuff and then in a bath containing both a substantive and an acid dyestuff. Azo dyes may further be formed on the esterified parts of the fibres by applying salts of diazotizable bases, diazotizing and developing. Batik effects may be obtained by covering the esterified parts with a resist in the usual manner and dyeing with a basic dyestuff with or without subsequent dyeing of the ground with a substantive dyestuff. Specification 195,619 is referred to.
