Abstract
The process described in the parent Specification comprising printing textile materials consisting of or containing cellulose with a mixture of coupling component and an alkali or an alkali salt of a coupling component, a suitable diazotizable primary amine and an alkali nitrite, drying the material, passing through acid at ordinary temperature for the purpose of producing diazotization and then through an agent which binds acid to produce coupling, is modified by using as the coupling component a condensation product of an o-oxycarboxylic acid arylide with formaldehyde. These printings may similarly be combined with the production of other dyes, for example, Aniline Black, or effects with vat dyes or their leuco sulphuric esters. In examples: (1) 4.4<1>-dichloro-2-amino-1-1<1>-diphenyl ether, or the sodium salt of the condensation product (the preparation of which is described) of formaldehyde and 2-3-oxynaphthoic acid-2<1> methoxyanilide and sodium nitrite are made into a paste with sodium hydroxide, turkey red oil, glycerine and starch tragacanth; material is printed with this colour, dried, passed through aqueous hydrochloric acid and then through aqueous sodium carbonate or bicarbonate (red shade); (2) a mixture of 4.4<1>-dichloro - 5 - acetylamino - 2 - amino -1.1<1>-diphenylether, the condensation product of formaldehyde and 2.3-oxynaphthoic acid-4<1>-ethoxyanilide and sodium nitrite are made into a paste as in (1), the material printed therewith, dried, passed through aqueous hydrochloric acid containing sodium chloride and then through a chamber of ammoniacal vapours (Bordeaux-red); (3) a mixture of 4<1>-chloro-4-carbethoxy-2-aminodiphenylether, the condensation product of formaldehyde with 2.3-oxynaphthoic acid-2<1>-methoxyanilide, sodium nitrite, sodium hydroxide and sodium acetate is made into a paste with urea, turkey red oil, and starch tragacanth thickening, and material is printed therewith and subsequently treated as in (1), the red dyeing being alternatively developed by removing acid by means of water or ammonia; (4) A printing colour is made from a mixture of 4-(2<1>-methyl) -phenoxyacetylamino-2.5-diethoxy-1-aminobenzene, the formaldehyde compound of 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid-m-chloranilide, sodium nitrite, sodium hydroxide and sodium acetate and a mixture of 4,4<1>-dichloro-2-aminodiphenylether, the formaldehyde compound of 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid o-anisidide, sodium nitrite, sodium hydroxide and sodium acetate, and is made into a paste with alcohol, urea, turkey red oil and starch tragacanth thickening; material is printed therewith, dried, passed through rollers effecting impregnation with hydrochloric acid, and then through a sodium bicarbonate solution whereby blue and red effects are obtained. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 referred to the use in the foregoing process of the condensation product of a coupling component with formaldehyde, but this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
