Abstract

374,856. Extruding poultry &c. food. PORTEUS, G., Leeds Bridge Works, Leeds. March 14, 1931, No. 7893. [Class 87 (ii).] Relates to extrusion machines in which intermeshing toothed rings force cattle &c. cake mixture through orifices located in the rings between their teeth and consists in providing a feeding device by which predetermined and variable amounts of material up to a maximum defined by the capacity of one tooth recess may be positively supplied to the rings. The material which may be poultry food, descends from a hopper through a shoot 1 on to an arcuate fixed table 2 from which it is swept by bars 4 carried by a disc &c. driven by a shaft 6, an adjustable gate 11 being provided to regulate the permissible piling up of material in front of each bar 4. The material passes by way of guides 8 to the rings 9, 10 having teeth of substantially square profile and rows of orifices through which the material is extruded. Knives 13, Fig. 1, sever the extruded streams into pellets which are collected in boxes 15. Flanges are provided on one of the rings to prevent lateral escape of material.
