Abstract
374,117. Softening water. BROWNLOW, H. H., Town Mills, Tonbridge, Kent. March 4, 1931, No. 6742. [Class 46.] Apparatus for softening and filtering water comprises an earthenware body, base-exchange softening material between perforated plates A, C, a strainer E of porous fabric, an internal earthenware discharge pipe G having an outlet about half-way or two-thirds of the way up the filter, a metal cover M, and an earthenware or glass lining plate O, the cover being screwed to receive an inlet tap or pipe R and a bell or funnel shaped vessel S through which water charged with salt, or other revivifying material, may be poured. The plate A is cemented to a ledge B, and the plate C is secured by lugs D. A plate provided with roses of metal gauze may be substituted for the perforated plate A. The strainer E is secured between the cover M and flanges K on the filter body. The cover M is secured by bolts and a sectional metal ring L, or earthenware lugs &c., rubber or other packing being employed. The vessel S is provided with a screwed closing plug T.
