Abstract

373,908. Magnetic sound recording and reproducing apparatus. STILLE INVENTIONS, Ltd., 35, Little Newport Street, London. Oct. 15, 1931, No. 28689. Convention date, Oct. 15, 1930. Addition to 366,888. [Class 40 (ii).] In order that the frictional contact between the magnetic band or wire and its driving drum in the parent Specification shall be maintained when the machine is at rest, thereby avoiding slip at starting, the band or wire is kept in tension by arranging the guide rolls l<1>, l<2> engaging the band between the spools S\ S<2> and the driving drum A as tensioning rolls and applying a brake H to the let off spool S<1>. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the frictionally driven take-up spool S<2> may be driven through means which store up energy and tensions the band extending thereto when the machine is at rest. For this purpose, the spool S<2>, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), which is driven from a shaft W frictionally driven from a shaft C is connected with the shaft W by a spiral spring F which is wound up by the normal working but tends to unwind and continue to drive the spool when the machine is stopped. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
