Abstract

373,898. Mechanical switches without quick action. BOSCH AKT.-GES., R., 4, Militõrstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. Sept. 26, 1931, No. 26867. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1930. [Class 38 (v).] In order to facilitate the assembly of a rotating switch of the type used for controlling lights on motor vehicles, a handle 4 is moulded in one piece with a flange 6, shaft 5, and pin 7 from synthetic resin, and is shaped to allow of insertion through the rear of a cover-plate 3, the surface at 16 being rounded off, and the flange and handle sufficiently separated for this purpose. To complete the assembly, a spiral spring 12, a locking disc 11, an insulating disc 10, and a switch disc 9 are successively threaded over the shaft, the three latter having square holes which engage a part 8 of the shaft which is of square cross section. Finally, an insulating base 1 carrying annular contacts is threaded on the pin 7 and locked to the cover by tongues in the edge of the latter engaging recesses in it. In a modification a switch roller takes the place of the switch disc. 373,928. Mechanical switches without quick action. [Class 38 (v).] The polarity of the electrodes of a direct-current discharge lamp filled with a mixture of gases or of gas and vapour is reversed each time the lamp is switched on. Insulated discs 5, 6 on the shaft of a switch 4 rotatable in one direction only are connected to the electrodes 2, 3 of the lamp and carry contacts 10, 11 sliding over segments 12, 13 connected to the current source. The tube is switched on or off by a turn through a right-angle and the polarity of the electrodes reversed after a time through two right-angles.
