Abstract

Coloured nitrocellulose lacquers and masses are made by incorporating in the lacquer or mass an oxazine dyestuff obtained by condensing the hydrochloride of a dialkylated nitroso-aniline or a derivative thereof with a dialkylated m-aminocresol or a mono- or dialkylated m-aminophenol, and also a salt obtained from a hydroaromatic base and 2-nitraniline-4-sulphonic acid, 2 : 6-dinitrodiphenylamine-4 : 3<1>-disulphonic acid or derivatives thereof such as 2-nitro-5-chloraniline-4-sulphonic acid and 2 : 6-dinitro - 4<1> - chlordiphenylamine - 4 : 3<1>-disulphonic acid. Green products are obtained fast to light and stable to sublimation. In examples, (1) the dye from the hydrochloride of p-nitroso-m-ethoxydiethylaniline and m-oxydiethylaniline and the salt from dicyclohexylamine and 2-nitroaniline-4-sulphonic acid are dissolved in commercial celluloid lacquer, (2) the oxazine from p-nitrosodimethylaniline and diethyl-m-aminocresol is used instead of the dyestuff in (1), (3) the dyestuff and salt used in (1) are dissolved in alcohol, kneaded with celluloid and the product pressed into a plate, (4) the dyestuff in (1) and the salt from cyclohexylamine and 2-nitro-5-chloraniline-4-sulphonic acid are dissolved in celluloid lacquer, (5) the dyestuff in (2) and the salt from dicyclohexylamine (2 mols.) and 2 : 6-dinitrodiphenylamine-: 4 : 3<1> disulphonic acid (1 mol.) are dissolved as above, (6) the dyestuff in (1) and the salt from mono-or di-cyclohexylamine and 2 : 6-dinitro-4<1>-chlordiphenylamine-4 : 3<1>-disulphonic acid are similarly used. 2 : 6-Dinitro - 4<1> - chlordiphenylamine-4 : 3<1>-disulphonic acid is made from 2 : 6-dinitrochlorbenzene-4-sulphonic acid and 4-chloraniline-3-sulphonic acid.
