Abstract
A size for artificial threads, particularly those made from organic cellulose derivatives comprises one or more drying oils such as soya bean, poppy seed, linseed or perilla oils and an oil of high viscosity which does not dry or dries only incompletely. The high viscosity oil may be a natural oil or fat chemically changed by oxidation, such as blown colza oil, blown cotton-seed oil or blown soya bean oil or a synthetic oil such as an estolide obtained, for example, by heating higher hydroxy fatty acids or esterification products thereof with mono- or polyhydric alcohols such as glycerol. Driers such as cobalt, lead, or manganese oleates, resinates or naphthenates, and oil-soluble amines or soaps, for example triethanolamine oleate, may be added.ALSO:A size for artificial threads, particularly those made from organic cellulose derivatives, comprises one or more drying oils such as soya bean, poppy seed, linseed or perilla oils and an oil of high viscosity which does not dry or dries only incompletely. Driers such as cobalt, lead or manganese oleates, resinates or naphthenates and oil-soluble amines or soaps, for example triethanolamine oleate, may be added. The sizing agents may be applied as such or dissolved in solvents such as aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons, for example, benzine, benzene and toluene, or in aqueous emulsion which may contain emulsifying agents such as soaps, or sulphonated oils. Desizing may be assisted by soap solutions containing a perborate or mixtures of soap with solvents for fats.ALSO:A size for artificial threads, particularly those made from organic cellulose derivatives comprises one or more drying oils such as soya bean, poppy seed, linseed or perilla oils and an oil of high viscosity which does not dry or dries only incompletely.
