Abstract

370,305. Road vehicle hoods. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO., 11631, Mack Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Ball, A. P. ; 3574, McKinley Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) Aug. 19, 1931, No. 23367. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1930. [Class 108 (i).] In road vehicles in which a rear deck is provided with a compartment and a collapsable hood which when extended covers the compartment and which when collapsed is adapted to be housed completely within the compartment, the hood comprises a U-shaped main bow hinged to the body and supported by a pair of foldable braces connected to the bow and to the body and a rear U-shaped bow pivotally connected to braces and extending upwardly and rearwardly. The compartment 14 is shown in Fig. 2 completely covered by the hood fabric 15 and the hood comprises a main bow 18 pivoted to the body at 19 and supported by a back stay in two parts hinged intermediately at 26 to which a back bow 34 is also pivoted and a front extension comprising cant rails 38 and cross rail 36. The back stay joint is provided with a latch 27 to prevent accidental collapse and comprises spaced pivoted plates and dogs 29 engaging projections 32, 33, Fig. 4. The cant rails are adapted to be locked in extended position by a latch comprising a spring controlled catch adapted to engage a projection 49 on the other part 41, Fig. 7, of the cant rail. The hood is shown in dotted lines in the collapsed condition in Fig. 2.
