Abstract

369,374. Friction hinges. TIMINGS, S., 55, Great Hampton Street, Birmingham. March 6, 1931, No. 7079. [Class 65 (ii).] A hinge for mirrors is provided with friction washers, and the,parts are permanently held together under pressure by the pivot without the use of a spring or spring washer. The fixed member 1 of the hinge is formed as a box to contain the friction parts, and has fixing lugs integral with it. The other member 4 is attached to the member 1 by a staple-shaped pivot 12 passing through, and having its edges engaging in, a circular hole in the member 1. Two friction washers 21, 22 are fixed to the pivot, and between these washers is another friction washer 23, incapable of rotation in the part 1 and apertured to give the pivot 12 free movement. These friction parts are assembled under pressure, and are held under pressure to produce the required friction by bending the ends of the pivot member 12 as shown. The mirror carries a fixing plate 2 having parts 30 which engage with guides 13 and a stop 15 on the pivoted member 4. The washers 21, 23 may be dispensed with, or additional washers may be used.
