Abstract
369,211. Latticework masts. HAMMEL, V. F., 433, West 21st Street, New York, U.S.A. Dec. 13, 1930, No. 37649. [Class 20 (i).] A latticework post is formed of stiffened uprights bound together by spirally wound or zig-zag reinforcing bars, the latter being welded to each other and to the posts at the points of intersection. The spiral bracing C<1>, Fig. 6, may be disposed interiorly or exteriorly to the uprights B, or on both sides. The uprights may comprise angular, tee, or channel section bars, and with angle-section bars the apices may be disposed interiorly or exteriorly of the post. The uprights may be braced at intervals by rings F<1>, Fig. 7, or these rings may be used at the joints of the post sections. The uprights on opposite sides may be cross braces by looping E, Fig. 14. Some of the uprights may be stopped short of the topmost section of the post. The zig-zag bracings a<1> may simply abut against each other-or cross each other in the case of angle section uprights, Fig. 19, while in case of T-section uprights the bracing abuts on the webs at d<2>, Fig. 21, the abutting portions being welded together. The uprights may be received into grooves formed in a mandrel A and the helical bracing C<1> welded by tools C, Fig. 5, and the post then stripped from the mandrel.
