[Class 123 (i).] In an electric pressure-cooker, the cover C rests on a toothed flange a<10> on the body, and a locking ring R of U-section is provided, the lower flange having teeth corresponding to those on the flange a<10>. The ring is made in two halves which are welded together after placing over the cover. The cover is locked by a partial rotation of the ring R whereby co-operating wedge surfaces on the two sets of teeth engage to press the cover against the body. An additional closure B comprising an L-section ring of vulcanizable rubber is provided and is vulcanized in position. The electric heater is placed in a recess a<9>, contact with the vessel being ensured by means of a spring plate h<1>. The terminals h<6> are housed in insulating cups h<7> and are connected to contact pins h<5>. A device for maintaining the cover in correct angular relationship with the body comprises a bracket a<14>, Fig. 6, supporting a forked bracket D which receives a tongue E carried by the cover. A pin F is carried by the locking ring R and must be in alignment with the fork of the bracket D when the cover is to be withdrawn. The cover is provided with handles of insulating material and with a pressure gauge. A safety valve V, Fig. 9, comprises a closure member v<2> with adjustable spring v<5>, and a cap v<6> with recesses v<7> to break up the issuing steam. A narrow slit v<8> ensures an audible signal from the escaping steam. A vacuum release valve may be provided, comprising a port c5, Fig. 11, formed in the cover, which is closed by a member k<2> carried by a screw K mounted in the ring R. When closed, the member k<2> also acts as a locking device for the cover.
