Abstract

835,533. Coffee pots, Jugs &c. BRUCK, A. Aug. 5, 1958 [June 10, 1958], No. 25010/58. Class 66. Means for securing an electrically heated jug or pot 1 against displacement comprises a diaphragm 4 of rubber which acts as a suction cup when flexed, e.g. as shown in Fig. 3, and lies partially within a recess 3 of the jug, together with flexing means, e.g. a spindle 7, operable to flex the diaphragm 4. The spindle 7 is supported by lugs 8a of a bracket 8 secured within the base member 2 of the jug and is formed with an operating handle 9, a cranked portion 7a of the spindle passing through an eye 10 secured to a metal disc 11 embedded in the diaphragm 4. Instead of being formed as shown, the diaphragm 4 may be a suction cup which is flexed into contact with the surface on which it stands by the cranked portion 7a of the spindle 7 which may also have a second cranked portion for opening a spring-loaded valve to permit air to enter the space under the cup in order to release the suction. In a further modification, when the diaphragm 4 is of the type shown, it may be flexed by a lever pivoted to the jug body and engageable in serrations in a slot in the member 2. The device may be applied to electric kettles and coffee percolators.
