Abstract

1468469 Carbonating apparatus SODAFLO DRINKS Ltd 3 April 1975 [12 April 1974] 13640/75 Heading B1C A carbonating apparatus, e.g. for pressurising a bottle of soft drink with carbon dioxide gas from a gas bottle 5, comprises an injecting nozzle 12 which is pivotally mounted to a head part 4 so that it can be pivoted about a substantially horizontal axis between a first position, wherein a bottle can be placed around the nozzle 12 without being obstructed by a foot part 2, and a second position, wherein the bottle is held on the foot part 2. A shield is provided to protect a user should a bottle break during carbonation and may comprise a housing 13 which is pivotable with the nozzle 12, or a stationary casing with a removable side wall or door to allow access to the bottle. The bottle may be sealingly held against a resilient stopper 39 by raising a base 40 on which the bottle stands, or by spring biasing the stopper downwards into the bottle opening. Pressure of the carbonating gas may also be used to hold the stopper 39 in the bottle opening. The apparatus includes, a clamping arrangement 9 for the gas bottle 5, a gas connection 11 to feed a flexible pipe 20, a press button 52 operating through an adjustable fulcrum lever 53, 54, 55, 56 the operating pin 51 of the gas bottle, a pressure relief valve 50 which is presettable by a control 59, and a button 61 operating the valve 50 through a lever 60 to release pressure in the bottle at the completion of a carbonating process. A device may be provided to prevent commencement of carbonating until the bottle is held properly and the protective shield is in place.
