Abstract
368,954. Wireless signalling. KOLSTER - BRANDES, Ltd., Cray Works, Sidcup, Kent.- (Kolster Radio Corporation ; 200, Mount Pleasant Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Feb. 23, 1931, No. 5619. [Class 40 (v).] In order to minimize the effects of fading, two or more differentlyorientated aerials are energized in succession, through push-pull amplifiers, so as to transmit signals on waves of different polarization, the change from one type of radiation to the other being determined by the frequency of an alternating or polyphase source of high tension. A valve generator 1, Fig. 1, stabilized by a piezo-crystal 2 feeds a pair of amplifiers 4, 5 in parallel. Tappings from the tuned output circuit 6 are taken to two pairs 7, 9 and 8, 10 of push-pull amplifiers, the input being in parallel to the two opposite pairs 9, 10 and 7, 8. These valves respectively energize a vertical aerial 17 and an horizontal aerial 18 in alternate periods determined by the frequency of the source 19 supplying the plates of the valves. A transformer 20 supplies filament current to the whole system. In Fig. 2, three sets of push-pull amplifiers 7, 9 and 8, 10 and 22, 23 are fed with high-tension from a three-phase source 21 and successively energize the doublet aerials 17, 18, 26. In both cases the generator valve 2 and intermediate amplifiers 4, 5 are supplied from a continuous source S of plate voltage.
