Abstract

Apples, tomatoes, citrus and other fruit are preserved by coating with a film containing a monovalent alkali ichthyosulphonate, preferably the ammonium salt. Suitable carriers for the salts are non-drying oils or fats such as petroleum jelly or lanoline, glycerine, or a drying liquid such as an albumen or a solution of gelatine or a vegetable gum. The film may be applied by dipping, spraying, brushing, &c. The treated fruit may be wrapped in paper before packing.
