Abstract
368,788. Valve amplifying and detecting circuits. MIDGLEY, A. H., Fairfield, Harefield Road, Uxbridge, Middlesex. Dec. 11, 1930, No. 37367. [Class 40 (v).] In order to increase the stage gain of a direct-coupled thermionic amplifier or detector the resistance or impedance connecting the anode of one stage to the grid of the next is shunted by a condenser to byepass all high or audio frequencies. The Figure shows a three-stage low-frequency amplifier in which the anodes of valves T1, T2, T3 are connected to the positive high-tension source H3 through resistances or chokes R1, R2' R3 and also (as regards T1, T2) to the negative terminal H1 through resistances or tapped chokes r1, r2 from which an adjustable connection is made to the grid of the succeeding stage. The portion of the coupling element included in the direct anode-grid connection is shunted by a condenser C1, C2 so as to increase the stage gain. The input terminals A1' A2 are shunted by a resistance K, A2 being connected to the potentiometer P across the high-tension source, through a variable tapping. The common cathode circuits are also tapped on to this potentiometer through a resistance X. Suitable component values are given in the Specification. Specifications 344,096 and 344,936 are referred to.
