Abstract
368,358. Tents. BUSHNELL, F. B., Arnehurst, Marsh Lane, Taplow, Buckinghamshire. Oct. 27, 1930, No. 32266. [Class 20 (i).] A tent, preferably rectangular or oval in plan, is so constructed that at least one wall or face is vertically " bent " when the tent is erected. In the form shown, a rectangular tent 11, Figs. 1, 2, and 3, is supported at the peak 12 by a slanting pole 13. The pole is supported by a guy-rope 14 arranged in the same vertical plane as the pole. The face 18 of the tent comprises the entrance and two triangular portions or walls 19, 20 extending to the ground and bounded respectively by tapes 16a, 33a and 17a, 34a. These walls are bent respectively about tapes 23, 24 which extend from opposite lower corners of the face 18 and pass over the guy-rope 14 at 12a. As shown in plan, Fig. 3, these tapes are bent by the stretched canvas. The canvas above the tapes 23, 24 and between the tapes 33a, 34a, constitutes an overhanging porch. The entrance to the tent is normally closed by laterally-disposed lower parts 25, 26 of the walls 19, 20, and these parts may be folded back about the tapes 23, 24, or about the tapes 33a, 34a. In order that the entrance may be completely closed, the overlapping parts 25, 26 are each adapted to be secured to the opposite wall at the points 29, 30. The opening 27 above the flaps may be closed by a flap 28. The peak 12 of the tent may be raised by moving the base of the pole 13 towards the centre of the tent, the toggle-like construction of the front face 18 permitting the whole structure to pivot slightly about the rear edge. Such pivoting movement is facilitated by metal links 37 bv which the canvas is secured to the tent pegs. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the tent pole is supported by two guyropes. The Provisional Specification also states that the links 37 may be secured to rings which are secured to a doubled-over portion of the canvas.
