368,210. Lubricating valves. KONSTANTINOFF, J., 19, Rue Vernier, Paris. Oct. 26, 1931, No. 29651. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1930. [Class 12 (ii).] In an internal-combustion engine having rotary distributing valves 1 mounted within sleeves 6 in the heads 4 of the engine cylinders 5, oil is fed to the inner surface of each sleeve through ducts 19 from recesses 15 formed in the exterior thereof, the recesses 15 being supplied with oil under pressure by a pump through pipes 18 and being also in communication, through passages 13, 16, with an oil reservoir 12 from which the pump draws and in which the bearings 8, 9 of the valve run. Should the pump fail, lubrication of the valve is thus still ensured by gravity flow from the reservoir. The pump delivers to a manifold 27 in a cover member 24 to which the pipes 18 are connected. Oil is supplied to the worms 11 driving the valves from the manifold 27 through ducts 29. Each valve is provided with packing rings 2, 3 which contact with the sleeve 6 only at their edges, and the ducts 19 lead to annular grooves 22 on the inner surface of the sleeve 6 opposite the contacting portions of the rings.
