[Class 53.] In dry cells having electrolytes thickened by means of starch; the thickening is effected at the same time as the application of an insulating coating by heating the cell in a bath of insulating material. Paraffin, ceresine, or various kinds of bitumen or wax, or mixtures thereof, may be used as insulating material, but it is preferred to have a bath of melting-point corresponding to the most suitable temperature for making the starch into paste. Thicker insulating layers may be obtained by coating the cells with an absorbent such as paper or fabric before dipping them in the bath.
