Abstract
367,472. Windows. HURLEY, M. S., 71, Bradford Street, Farnworth, Lancashire. Nov. 26, 1930, No. 35534. [Class 20 (iii).] Relates to means for draining away the water which is driven between the sill or transom and the bottom rail of a sash window or outw a r d l y swinging casement window, French window or door. According to the invention, the sill 7, Figs. 1 and 5, or transome, is formed with a longitudinal groove 9 which communicates with channels 10 leading to the front of the window or door, the back face 12 of the groove, against which the lower rail 8 of the window or door abuts when closed, rising higher than the front face 17. The channels are inclined at different angles relatively to the front face of the sill and mav be either straight or curved. The channels are preferably narrower at the outlet than at the end in the groove. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the front face 17 of the groove is formed on a supplementary sill 11 cast intergal with the sill 17. A projection on this sill 11 co-operates with a groove 16 in the bottom rail 8 and provides an obstacle to the entrance of water. In a modification, the supplementary sill comprises a number of spaced strips which are secured to the sill 7, the spaces between the strips forming the channels 10. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 5948/91, [Class 20, Buildings &c.].
