Abstract
367,436. Printing-rollers. ROBINSON, L. T. A., 5, Arundel Street, Strand, London. Nov. 20, 1930, No. 34997. Drawings to Specification. [Class 100 (ii).] The gap between the adjacent ends of one or more printing-plates wrapped round a printing- cylinder is filled in by a material the exposed or whole surface of which is hardened by heat and pressure or by chemical action. Suitable materials are asphalt, leather, guttapercha, balata, bitumen, resin, tar, casein, and those known under the registered Trade Marks " Bakelite," " Galalith," and " Erinoid." The hardening of the exposed surface of the filling may be effected by applying thereto a heated sad iron or a heated roller having a concave surface shaped to fit the curve of the cylinder. The hardening may be effected by the application of a suitable chemical agent such as sulphuric, nitric, or hydrochloric acid. The filling material may be injected into the gap in a fused state under pressure or may be formed to the shape of the gap before insertion therein. The exposed surface or the whole surface of the filling may be provided with a coating of copper, iron, nickel, type metal, or other suitable metal by electrolysis or by spraying.
