Abstract

366,229. Sifting-apparatus. PETRIE & McNAUGHT, Ltd. and WIDDUP, H., Crawford Street, Rochdale. Dec. 30, 1930, No. 39146. [Class 117.] Apparatus for screening dry towns' refuse &c. consists of two or more pronged grates 2, 4 rocking about shafts 3, 5 and disposed in cascade arrangement. Preferably the grates are flat at the outer and inclined or curved at the inner portions. Guard plates 7, 8 are disposed at the sides and may be fixed or mounted on the shafts to move with the grates. A bridge plate 9 is provided to guard the shaft 5. The screenings from both grates may be collected in a common shoot 18 or in different shoots. The tailings from the screens are discharged by a conveyer 6. The screens are connected for movement in opposite directions by arms 10, 11 connected by a link 14, and are driven from a common eccentric 15 by a rod 13 carrying a sliding block pivotally connected to the arm 11 and buffered by springs 16 regulated by nuts 17. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), one or more of the grates may be replaced by two superposed grates, corresponding additional guard plates and discharge plates being provided. In this construction, the buffer-spring device is disposed between arms on the grate shafts and the supporting frame.
