Abstract

16,079. Traylor, J. A. July 12. Sifting ores &c.- Relates to apparatus for wet or dry screening ores or other materials, in which the screen is reciprocated both vertically and horizontally, t h e upward movement being arrested abruptly. The screen-supporting frame 18, Figs. 1, 3, 4, and 5, is suspended by rods 16 having hooked ends engaging in the eyes of spring- pressed rods 15 carried by brackets 13 on the side bars 2 of the stationary frame 1. The frame 18 is reciprocated horizontally by an eccentric 9 on the driving-shaft 5, an eye-bolt 42 at the rear end of the frame being connected to a bolt 44 which passes loosely through the rear end of the frame 1 and is surrounded by a spring 46. A pair of links 23 is pivotally connected to each depending ear 14 of the brackets 13, and a link 24 pivoted between the lower ends of the links 23 is connected at its lower end to lugs on the plates 17 which carry the rods 16. The pins connecting the links 23, 24 pass through couplers 26, 27 connected by adjustable rods 28. The links 23, 24 constitute toggles which force the frame 18 down as they straighten out, the springs 20 of the rods 15 drawing it up when the links have passed the centre line. Buffers 47 on the corner plates 19 of the frame 18 contact with the heads of adjustable bolts 49 carried by brackets 48 on the sides of the frame 1. The couplers 27 are formed with bifurcations 27A, and are connected by arms 29 to arms 30, 31 on a rock-shaft 32 mounted on the frame 1. The arm 31 comprises two members 34, 35, Fig. 10, which are secured to each other and to the shaft 32 and have depending arms 34A between which is pivoted a block 36 receiving the outer end of the eccentric-rod 12 of an eccentric 10 on the shaft 5 Springs 37, 37A encircle the rod 12 on each side of the block 36. The eccentrics 9, 10 are set opposite to each other and have preferably the same throw. The frame 18 carries a pan 50 having a discharge opening 51 in the bottom at its forward end, and an extension in the form of a shoot 52 which projects over the shaft 32 and serves to discharge tailings from the screen. The wire-cloth or sheet-metal screen 53 is held in the pan 50 by bars 57 secured by clamps 58, and is prevented from sagging by longitudinal strips 55 and transverse wires 56 arranged beneath it. The screen 60, Fig. 6, employed for wet screening is of similar construction to the screen 53, but is provided with a catch-plate 61 beneath it extending to within a short distance of the forward end of the sieve frame. The plate has transverse riffles 63, which may consist of metal strips secured to the plate, but are preferably formed by imprinting grooves or channels in the underside of the plate. The apparatus is set at an inclination, and a series of screens may be used.
