Abstract
366,176. Supporting pipes. ALLEN, C. A., Cranford, Tredegar, Monmouthshire. Nov. 17, 1930, No. 34582. [Class 99 (ii).] A clamping device; by which pipes may be attached to joists, beams, pipes, or other supports of any cross section, comprises two independent members 1, 2 formed with jaws 3 which are drawn together to grip the support by a wedge 8 passed through holes; 4, 7 formed by bending over the member 1 and the arms 6 of the member 2. The top of the wedge 8 is bent over to form a driving head 16 while the bottom is formed as a suspension hook 17. The wedge may taper on one or both sides, and the tapered edge or edges may be formed with a step which provides, on the same edge, two tapered surfaces and permits ready attachment of the device to supports of differing widths. The'clamp may also be adapted for supports of differing widths by the construction shown in Fig. 8, in which each of the members 1, 2 is formed with an opposed pair of jaws 3 to provide, when the parts are assembled, a double. sided clamp. Fig. 9 shows a form of clamp suitable for use with circular section supports when the support is made of wood, the arcshaped jaws 3 may be replaced by spikes. The jaws 3 may also be replaced by a chain secured to one member and a hook formed on the other.
