Abstract
365,983. Electrolytic production of potassium ferricyanide. BRANDT, R., 4, Klaus Grothstrasse, Bergedorf, near Hamburg, Germany. July 29, 1931, No. 21629. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1930. Addition to 319,147, [Class 41, Electrolysis]. [Class 41.] In the process according to the parent Specification for electrolytic reoxidation of potassium ferrocyanide which has been formed by use of the ferricyanide as a purifying agent in gas manufacture, a cell of filter-press form is employed which is built up from bipolar electrodes of an alloy of iron with chromium and nickel such as V2A metal. The formation of detrimental coatings on the electrodes is thereby prevented even when revivifying washing liquors which have been employed for purifying gases such as water gas which contain very little hydrocyanic acid. The cell shown is built up of endplates S<1>, S<2>, electrodes 10 and rubber separators G. Electrolyte passes from distributing pockets T<1>, T<2> through passages O alternately at the top and bottom of the electrodes to a central chamber M and leaves by a pipe 15. Hydrogen passes through passages O<1> to a pipe 16. The central electrodes 6, 7 are connected together. The electrodes may be ribbed. The entering electrolyte must contain some ferricyanide and some bicarbonate for conversion of the alkali which is formed into carbonate.
