Abstract
<PICT:0365935/III/1> A process for the production of coarse grained ammonium sulphate in a saturator with the use of a stream of air or other gas, for example coke oven gas, for cooling the lye is characterized in that the gas is used in a compressed cooled condition and is expanded near the bottom of the saturator. The gas is cooled to room or to a lower temperature. As shown in the Figure, ammonia gas is introduced into sulphuric acid by pipe d. Air compressed to 3-5 ats. and at 18-20 DEG C. is led through pipe f, and escapes through nozzles, constructed in the form of a stationary reaction wheel. Pipe f is preferably insulated. A supply pipe h for sulphuric acid is provided, and ammonium sulphate is removed by air lift c.
