Abstract
365,599. Drinking - appliances for animals. SHANKS, T., Denny Iron Works, Denny, Stirlingshire. Oct. 20, 1930, No. 31351. [Class 5 (ii).] A drinking apparatus for animals comprises a member a having a valve-controlled outlet and adapted to be connected to a water supply pipe or vessel, and a pivotally suspended receptacle d, the valve b being automatically closed by the tilting of the receptacle under gravity when the water therein reaches a predetermined level and automatically opened by the tilting of the receptacle under the action of a spring j in conjunction with the head of water when the water therein falls below such level. The receptacle is suspended from the member a by means of an upwardly projecting bracket e between which and the member a is located the spring and which bracket e carries a grub screw g whereby the tension in the spring can be regulated to suit the existing head of water and also a smaller screw h which bears directly on the valve b to hold it on its seat and whereby the angle of the receptacle d may be adjusted with respect to the member a. The bracket e comprises two lugs having an interconnecting web through which is threaded the screw g, the screw h being threaded through the screw g. The vessel d may be in the form of a trough of channel or U-cross section and of annular or elliptical formation.
