Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 103 (v).] A duplicate automatic coupling for railway vehicles, which may be employed during shunting operations when the usual screw coupling is not in use, comprises on one vehicle a pivoted hooked rod g with depending projections h, i and on the other vehicle an inclined surface m' to the rear of which are disposed walls m<1>, o, the rod g being arranged first to ride up the incline m and then to drop with the projection h entering the groove n between the walls m<1>, o and the projection i engaging behind the wall o. The couplings are effective both for pulling or pushing and may be released, without the shunter entering between the vehicles, by means of hand-operated screw spindles r adapted to lift blocks p, which move in the grooves n and engage the projections h. Preferably the members e that carry the rods g are supported in casings B containing shock-absorbing springs. In their uncoupled position the rods g may either be swung back into contact with the ends c of the vehicles or they may rest in a setfor-coupling position on ledges l on the members e.
