Abstract

213,943. Cammell, Laird, & Co., Ltd., and Bailey, A. S. Nov. 7, 1922. Brake beams; blocks and shoes.-Relates to brake gear for railway vehicles of the type wherein the brake blocks when released are allowed to move downwardly away from the wheel under the action of gravity and inclined guiding means, and consists in adapting one side of each brake block to co-operate with a slide or slides attached to the framing of the vehicle or bogie and inclined downwardly in a direction away from the wheel circumference. Each brake block b is provided with upper and lower flanges d, d<1> which co-operate with a fixed guide e. The flanges are provided with renewable wearing strips f, f<1>. The flanges and guide are inclined downwardly away from the wheel g. The slide e may form part of the knee for the solebar and headstock of a bogie. Modifications are described in which a single flange on the brakehead engages between two fixed flanges forming the guide, and again in which a lug on the brake head works along an inclined rod.
