Abstract

365,264. Brake bands and shoes. CLARK, S. C., Pontiac, Michigan, U.S.A. Dec. 11, 1930, No. 37370. [Class 103 (i).] In an internal expanding or external contracting brake, a backing or support for the friction lining is secured to each metallic shoe or band solely by surface bonding, for example by vulcanization. In one form the backing material 42, as shown in the Figure, is surface bonded to the rims of the shoes 26<1 >and the linings 29 are vulcanized to the backing material. The shoes may be electroplated or otherwise provided with a layer of metal, for example, copper, to which the backing material may be vulcanized. The inner surface of the lining may be coated with a rubber composition prior to vulcanization to the backing which, it is stated, prevents squeaking of the brake.
