Abstract
363,507. Making hand tools. BRUNCARDT, A. 0., Elen Street, Scituate, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Dec. 15, 1930, No. 37796. Convention date, June 13. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Perforating by forging. -A wrench member comprising an integral shank 10, Fig. 8A, nut housing 12, and jaw 11, and fo med with an opening 14, a longitudinal channel 13, a spring-receiving groove and recess 19, 20, and projections 17, 18, is formed, by a series of forging and punching operations, from a similarly formed forged blank, Fig. 1A, having recesses 22, projections 18, and depressions 21. The blank is reheated and inserted in the forging machine. The opening 14 is formed by a punch, and a second punch partially forms the channel 13 and groove 19 and causes the flow of metal into the recesses 22 and shaped die-members to form the projections 17. The channel and groove on one side of the blank are then completely punched by another tool, and the opening 14 is cleared of waste metal by the punch that formed it. The channel and groove on the other side are then formed by another punch. The recess 20 may be formed by a milling cutter. Modifications in the form of the wrench are described. The opening 14 and the rear channel and groove 13, 19, especially in a form in which the opening 14 is not bridged across, may be formed by milling. Specification 328,727, [Class 83 (ii), Metal articles &c.], is referred to.
