Abstract

363,048. Pasteurizing milk &c. ENOCK, A. G., Dutch House, Raglan Gardens, Wembley Park, Middlesex, and MORTON & CO., Ltd., R., Trent Works, Burton-on-Trent. Oct. 21, 1930, No. 31484. [Class 49.] In pasteurizing milk or other substances enclosed in bottles &c. the bottles h are carried by a conveyer D through a chamber A containing dry air heated, e.g. by steam or hot water pipes K, to pasteurizing temperature, 140-150‹ F., then through a chamber B supplied with dry air at ordinary temperature, 50-60‹ F., and finally through a chamber C containing dry air cooled to 30-40‹ F. The chamber B is separated from chambers A, C by partitions a, b, and chambers B, C are subdivided by partitions b<1>, cl, and have air inlets M, n, and outlets M<1>, n<1>, which may have fans. The air from chamber e is circulated through a refrigerator N and refrigerating coils may also be provided in the chamber. The bottles may be disposed in crates H which are fed to and removed from the conveyer D by roller conveyers F, F<1>, supports d<1> attached to transverse bars d<2> pivoted to the conveyer D being provided to carry the crates through the chambers. The bottles may, alternatively, be suspended between carrier bars d<3>, Figs. 4, 6, pivotally carried by the conveyer D, the bottles being inserted by hand through an aperture d<1>. Flaps R, K<1> retard the passage of air in the apparatus. The bottles may be retained in chamber A for 30 minutes. The apparatus may be used in the plant set forth in Specification 363,033. The Provisional Specification describes apparatus in which two chambers are used, the bottles being finally passed into an ordinary cold storage chamber.
