Abstract
362,849. Cylindrical plywood articles. SCHLESINGER, G., 9, Korolingerplatz, Charlottenburg, Berlin. Sept. 2, 1930, No. 26171. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1929. [Class 145 (ii).] In making hollow plywood vessels from veneers, a continuous strip of veneer 1 is attached to a revolving drum 6 by a pivoted bar 26a, and has a second veneer 3<1> laid on it from a reel 4. Adhesive is applied to both faces of the veneer, either from the tank 12 or by strips of adhesive 14. The veneer 3<1> has its grain at right-angles to that of veneer 1 and its length is equal to the circumference of the drum 6 so that after one complete circuit veneer 1 forms the inner ply of a. 3 plyvessel. Knives 8, 11, cut off the lengths as required. The veneers are pressed against the drum by a steel band 17 kept taut by the load 22. The drum 6 and the band 17 are heated to melt the adhesive. To facilitate removal of the finished vessel the drum is reduced in diameter by the hand-wheel 30 moving a conical internal member axially, thus drawing inwards the bars 26b, 26c and 26d. Conical vessel can be similarly formed on a conical drum. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a method of forming a conical plywood vessel from one sheet of veneer by forming a sector 154, Fig. 4 (Cancelled). A method of cutting a veneer from a conical log is described. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
