Abstract
362,657. Packeting cigarettes. UNITED CIGARETTE MACHINE CO., AKT.-GES., 5, Junghansstrasse, Dresden, Germany. Nov. 28, 1930, No. 35889. Convention date, Jan. 23. [Class 94 (i).] An apparatus for excluding incorrectly filled cigarettes from the operations of a packeting machine comprises a hopper b from which the cigarettes a pass to a fluted drum e, in the grooves of which they are arranged by a roller f. A series of feelers g, each lightly pressed into contact with a portion of the surface of a cigarette by a spring i, is mounted on a shaft h. If the cigarettes are correctly filled, contacts n, o on the upper part of the feeler are held midway between contacts p, q. If, however, a cigarette is insufficiently filled or overfilled over any portion of its length, the corresponding feeler is rocked to make contact with the point p or q respectively, and a circuit s, v is closed to energize an electromagnet t, the armature w of which operates an ejecting device for removing the faulty cigarette. The contact points are adjustable. In a modification, the feeler levers may co-operate with a mechanical relay, or may control the ejecting apparatus directly.
