362,073. Plate heat exchangers. SERCK RADIATORS, Ltd. and WAGNER, C. 0., Warwick Road, Greet, Birmingham. Oct. 4, 1930, No. 29757. [Class 64 (iii).] A heat exchanger comprises a block of superposed metal plates a, Figs. 2 .. 6. The plates may be corrugated transversely. An oil cooler consists of blocks of plates soldered to strips d, Fig. 10, to form oil ducts c, the cooling air flowing through the spaces between the plates. In a modification, the sides of the ducts are formed by metal,plates to which the blocks are soldered. In another arrangement, the blocks of plates are soldered to oil ducts c, Fig. 14. The plates may be shaped to form ducts c, Fig. 16, between the blocks. The blocks may, however, be soldered to a bent plate h, Fig. 17. In a further modification, the plates a, Fig. 18, are sprung into position between fixed oil ducts j. The edges of the plates may be folded as at b, Fig. 19. A motor vehicle radiator may be constructed by connecting the spaces between the blocks to tubes l, Fig. 21, connected to headers m.
