Abstract

Aldehyde-amine condensation products.--A mouldable infusible resin is produced by first forming a fusible aldehyde-amine condensation product low in aldehyde, and then adding additional aldehyde. The addition of aldehyde in the second stage may be effected by adding, for instance, paraformaldehyde in the moulding operation, or by adding a resin rich in aldehyde, or by adding an aldehydeyielding substance such as hexamethylene tetramine. In an example 1 mol. aniline is condensed with 1 mol. formaldehyde in presence of 1 mol. hydrochloric acid and water, the fusible resin is precipitated with 1,1 mol. alkali and washed; the fusible product is mixed with a filler such as woodflour and hexamethylene tetramine or paraformaldehyde and moulded at 150 DEG C.
